Johan obtained his degree in Medical Sciences from Groningen University and has worked at Medtronic from 1997 to 2015 in a variety of sales and marketing positions in the cardiac rhythm management division of Medtronic, and has significant hands-on experience with the introduction of CRT devices in several EU markets and in the Middle East area. From 2016 to 2021 Johan was senior director international at Bioness, that has been acquired by Bioventus in 2021.

Frebus received his PhD degree in April 2014, defending his thesis entitled “Technical solutions to improve cardiac regenerative therapy”. He is also the inventor (together with Dr. Chamuleau) of the Company’s first patent, filed in April 2014 entitled: “Cardiac imaging processing for interventions” based on the work for his PhD thesis and which is now part of CART-Tech’s core technology. He obtained his MSc degree in Control Systems Engineering from the University of Hertfordshire, and in Medical Engineering of the Eindhoven University of Technology.

Chief Officer Quality & Regulatory

Trained as a technical designer (MSc in Industrial Design Engineering, Delft University of Technology), Ninke developed herself as a QA/RA specialist. She has extensive expertise in the design and development of medical devices, set-up and maintenance of Technical Files, requirements engineering, product and process risk management, usability engineering, quality management system development and implementation, auditing, training, and coaching.
She has extensive (> 10 years) experience with safety critical design and quality assurance throughout the entire development life cycle of medical devices, including the CE marking process and regulatory submissions in Canada and Australia. Her background is in software and hardware for active medical devices in different areas of the medical field (dialysis, insulin infusion, radiology, radiotherapy).

Leonie holds a MSc in Entrepreneurship in Health and Life Sciences (VU Amsterdam, 2016) and started her career as a CRA at Factory-CRO for Medical Devices (now Avania). During  a career of almost 6 years, she was promoted to the positions of  Project Manager and subsequently Manager Business Development.
Currently she works as a freelance consultant in the MedTech industry with 2 MedTech start-ups. For CART-Tech, her initial focus is to manage the currently running ADVISE-III randomized clinical study in 130 patients and 7 hospitals.

Emma has a keen appreciation for Quality Control, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs and how these things are essential to delivering the highest quality products and services to meet a customer’s needs and protect their safety. Emma demonstrates enthusiasm for scientific innovation and the opportunities for improvement this can bring to people’s lives. She has a strong attention to detail and has worked in Quality Control and Quality Assurance for Dutch medical device companies since 2019. Previously, Emma worked in environmental science education in Australia as well as installation of children’s safety equipment adhering to ISO quality standards. Emma continues to increase her knowledge of medical device regulations and ISO standards while managing CART-Tech’s Quality Management System.

Senior Software Engineer

Daan is a strongly motivated and experienced software engineer. He earned his PhD degree in Cognitive Neuropsychiatry for fMRI brain research at Utrecht University and obtained his MSc degree in Cognitive Neuroscience from Groningen University. Since 2008 Daan has worked as a software engineer and teamlead for several video (Vidigo, United Broadcast Facilities) and medical (Brain Science Tools, Brain Carta, MILabs, 3mensio) software companies. Daan loves medical imaging technology and is grateful to work on innovations that help clinicians and surgeons perform novel and more precise interventions.

Emanuele Rondanina, MSc, PhD

Application Software Engineer

Emanuele is a biomedical engineer with a PhD in cardiovascular mechanics. He is deeply passionate about developing software technologies that enable smooth and efficient clinical decision making. His academic experience started at the University of Genoa, continued at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and concluded at the Eindhoven University of Technology. There he was selected as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow for the project “MUSICARE” (MUltiSectoral Integrative approaches to CArdiac caRE). During his fellowship, he developed two modelling tools to predict short- and long-term outcomes of cardiac diseases, generating new insights on cardiac growth and remodelling. In September 2020, he defended his PhD thesis, entitled “Strategies to model cardiac growth”. At CART-Tech, he is working as an Application Engineer, working along with software engineers and physicians to improve image guided therapies.

Minh Phuong is our Senior Software Engineer, holding a PhD in Biomedical Imaging. He has a deep passion for creating innovative products that enhance quality of life. His academic journey started at HUST in Vietnam where he studied Biomedical Engineering followed by 2 master’s programs in Bioengineering at the University of Porto, and Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNIST in South Korea. His journey continued with a PhD in Biomedical Imaging at Delft University of Technology. During his years with MILabs, he developed high-resolution ex vivo single-photon and positron emission tomography and led the development of an innovative scanning-focused nuclear microscope. Now at CART-Tech, he applies his extensive knowledge and expertise to further enhance our pioneering products.

Flavius obtained his BSc in Applied Electronics from Politehnica University Timisoara, Romania in 2019. For over 3 years he programmed software solutions in C/C++ and gradually got actively involved in projects that include Image Processing, Image Registration, Computer Vision, Deep Learning and Machine Learning. Flavius is ambitious and enthusiastic to confront the challenges of medical image analysis. In parallel, Flavius is currently finalizing a MSc degree in Medical Imaging at Utrecht University in collaboration with Eindhoven University of Technology. He is pursuing a research project on Diffusion MRI at University Medical Center Utrecht.

Prof. Steven Chamuleau, MD, PhD

Prof. Steven Chamuleau, MD, PhD

Steven is the head of the Department of Cardiology at Amsterdam University Medical Center (Amsterdam UMC, the Netherlands), specialized in cardiac regenerative therapy, valvular disease and cardiac imaging. He combines state-of-the-art cardiac care with promising experimental techniques and is well known for his implementation of novel treatment strategies and techniques in the clinic.
He completed medical school in Amsterdam and subsequently received his PhD degree cum laude in 2001 on intracoronary derived physiological parameters for clinical decision making at the Academic Medical Center (AMC) in Amsterdam under supervision of Prof. Jan Piek and Prof. Jan Tijssen. After his PhD he started his residency at the AMC Amsterdam, where he also did his fellowship training in cardiology and cardiac imaging. After a year in Louisville, KY, USA in the lab of Prof. Bolli, focusing on cardiac stem cell treatment, he received a position as a staff cardiologist at UMC Utrecht (2008-2019) were he became deputy head of the department, and supervisor for the Cardiology group.
Prof. Chamuleau has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers and is an active member in the Dutch and European Society of Cardiology, and scientific advisory board of the Dutch Heart Foundation, and the International Society of Cardiovascular Translational Research (ISCTR). He is a reviewer for several Journals, including EHJ and Circulation. At the moment he is a (co-)PI in several large international research consortia. He manages a large group of PhD Students, and became Professor of Cardiology at UMC Utrecht in 2016, and since 2020 in Amsterdam UMC.

Tim Leiner, MD PhD EBCR, Cardiovascular Radiologist, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota USA

Tim is a acknowledged expert in cardiovascular imaging technologies and will be joining in February, 2022.
Before June 2021 he was a full professor at Utrecht University Medical Center, where he held the Chair of Cardiovascular Radiology. He is a co-founder of Quantib in Utrecht (recently acquired by Radnet). His research interests center around the development of new imaging techniques including machine learning methods for earlier and better detection and characterization of cardiovascular disease.
He has published over 300 original papers, review articles and book chapters in these areas and is editor of several electronic radiology textbooks. Dr. Leiner is a fellow of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), the Society for Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) and the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR). He is a past president of the Society for Magnetic Resonance Angiography.
